"Residents only" sign and two traffic cones at an intersection

Edith Road this afternoon

Portions of Edith Road (between Joseph and Pinewood) and a short section of Griffin Road were blocked with detours this afternoon for a couple of different road work projects. And, more substantially, water and sewer work is underway in Saxonville.

From a city press release on the Saxonville intersection utility work:

The scope of work includes activities along Elm St from McGrath Square to Chestnut St, Chestnut St, and the lower portion of Edwards St. To facilitate the process, Bypass piping will be installed along the sides of the roads. Temporary fire hydrants will replace existing ones to ensure continued fire safety.

Residents and commuters should note that work on Elm St will necessitate the elimination of turning lanes, with traffic alternating between one and two lanes depending on the daily work location. Additionally, Chestnut St will become impassable during the construction period. Access to the dead end of Chestnut St for residents and emergency vehicles will be rerouted through the back of the Stapleton School and Edwards St.

While Edwards St will also be impassable, access will be maintained from either end. Work hours are scheduled from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., although completion may occur as early as 3 p.m. Night work may be required on Elm St, and updates will be communicated via message boards and door hangers to immediate abutters.

To ensure smooth operations, parking will be prohibited on all three streets during working hours. Signs will be posted in advance to notify residents and businesses of any interruptions in water service, with a minimum 24-hour notice provided. Extended disruptions to businesses will prompt night work arrangements for affected areas.
