The Department of Public Works’ FY2025 Capital Improvement Plan is first on the agenda at the City Council Finance Subcommittee agenda tonight starting at 6 pm in the Memorial Building Blumer Room and on Zoom.
Water main work in Saxonville is in the request, but not the Saxonville intersection upgrade project originally expected in next year’s capital budget. The DPW presentation says that a requested $700,000 Saxonville intersection water main construction project “is in advance of the planned Saxonville intersection improvements.”

Later in the agenda is a discussion of Mayor Sisitsky’s overall FY 2025 capital budget plan. That plan shows the $6.125 million Saxonville intersection improvement project that was recommended in November but deferred in the latest capital budget request (see Saxonville Intersection Project Out of Mayor’s FY25 Capital Budget). According to an email from Councilor George King, who chairs the Finance Subcommittee, this doesn’t necessarily mean work won’t begin next year.
Other area projects in the DPW request include design work to replace the Elm Street water pump station, which “has faced electrical and mechanical failures due to age and condition,” according to the presentation. “The replacement of the Elm Street pump station and improvement of existing water mains is necessary to ensure a reliable water supply and water quality.”
The DPW PowerPoint says that a $2.5 million roadway improvement program is focused on fixing Brook Street from Water to Frost streets, including ADA improvements. Additional money would help improve Central Street and parts of Cochituate Road. That request is for money from general budget funds.
