For the second time in less than two years, District 2’s School Committee post is vacant. Anyone who wants to volunteer to fill out the remainder of the term should apply by May 27, Framingham Source reported.
Residents of existing District 2 (pre-redistricting) can apply by sending a resume to City Clerk Lisa Ferguson by email at laf@framinghamma.gov or by postal mail to 150 Concord St. Room 105, Framingham, MA 01702, according to the Source.
Finlay resigned last week after taking a job with the city of Framingham. The city charter does not allow paid city employees to serve on the School Committee.
David Gordon, who was the top runner-up in last year’s vote appointing Finlay to the seat, told me by telephone tonight that he is considering applying again but first wants to consult with his wife.
Finlay was District 2’s first School Committee representative after Framingham adopted the city form of government. He gave up that seat to run for City Council in a race won by current District 2 Councilor Cesar Stewart-Morales.
After District 2 School Committee member Karen Foran Dempsey died in December 2020, Finlay was appointed to that seat 11 to 7 by a joint vote of the City Council and School Committee. Gordon, backed by Stewart-Morales among others, has held several financial management positions at metro Boston schools including director of finance & operations at Tenacre Country Day School. Finlay then ran opposed last November for a two-year term.
The position has a $5,000 per year stipend.
