FRAMINGHAM – Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail are hosting a public informational meeting this Monday, November 10, 7 pm, to discuss plans for the trail’s extension in Framingham. The meeting will be at the Main Library’s Costin Room.
The city bought 3.4 miles of the old Framingham and Lowell Railroad property, which runs from the Sudbury town line to Pleasant Street, in 2023 for the trail extension. It will be several years yet before the Framingham portion is open.
“When complete, the 26-mile rail trail will connect Framingham with Lowell and six other communities along the way,” according to the meeting announcement. The Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is already open for recreational and non-motorized transportation use from Sudbury to Lowell.
The BFRT will also connect to other trails in Framingham, with the potential for more connections to the growing trail network south of Route 9, the announcement noted.
The Main Library is at 49 Lexington St.
